Mental Health Crisis Care Center

The Kem and Carolyn Gardner Mental Health Crisis Care Center at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI) Campus of Hope is open 24/7/365, offering compassionate, immediate care for people experiencing a mental health crisis. The Crisis Care Center provides a calm and safe environment created by combining patient input, world-class medical expertise and leading architectural design. The Crisis Care Center treats everyone regardless of their ability to pay. Services offered include crisis intervention, stabilization, inpatient care, outpatient substance use treatment, legal, medical and dental treatments and more. The HMHI Crisis Care Center is located at 955 W 3300 S, in South Salt Lake.

Local Resources

  • The Youth Crisis Care Program at Huntsman Mental Health Institute is a 24/7 walk-in location for children and teens experiencing a non-medical mental health emergency, like emotional distress, behavioral challenges, or thoughts of suicide or self-harm. The program offers immediate, short-term mental health support for children and teens ages 5-17 (18 if still in high school). No appointment needed.

  • The SafeUT app provides a way to connect to licensed counselors that are readyto listen to any sized crisis or concern, support is immediate and confidential.

  • The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the United States. 

    Available in English and Spanish.

  • Utah Warm Line

    Often, individuals may need a listening ear as they heal and recover from their own personal struggles. Utah residents who need connection from otherswho have walked similar paths may call the Utah Warm Line for that support. The Warm Line is staffed 8am-11pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year at no cost.

  • Kidstar is a daily treatment program for children 5–12 years of age that assists in clarifying the diagnosis of children with emotional and behavioral challenges. The treatment team includes board certified child/adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, expressive therapists, and an education specialist. 

  • Teenscope is a daily treatment program for teens ages 12–18 that assists in several key areas: Clarifying diagnosis, Resolving family issues and Providing treatment for all mental health issues. When appropriate, we also address chemical dependency issues
